Projectile looms are shuttleless weaving machines that use a small metal projectile to insert the weft yarn across the shed. This technology was developed in the mid-20th century and became commercially successful with the introduction of Sulzer projectile looms, which set new standards for high-speed and wide-width fabric weaving. The projectile carries the weft yarn through the shed mechanically, allowing stable insertion even for heavy and coarse yarns.
